We haven't had internet access for a few days now so bare with us while we try and remember the order of events :)
We woke up in Dingle and had one last walk around town before driving back towards Slea Head to a smaller port where we embarked on a very exhilarating ocean adventure to the Blasket islands. Unfortunately the seas were very choppy so we couldn't spot any whales, but a myriad of sea birds, puffins and very inquisitive harp seals came to visit us, no doubt wondering who would be silly enough to sail head first in to seven foot swells. We remembered sun screen but the salty ocean spray did a good job of washing some away. The whole trip lasted about four hours and was definitely a highlight.
Our drive north and sadly away from Dingle took us to Connor pass where from the top of the mountain you could see the ocean on both sides of the peninsula, although the cold wind didn't allow us to linger when warm lattes waited in the car. Further up the coast, however, lay the beaches. Magnificent beaches with massive waves, with nobody in sight. Here we did stay a while longer than we anticipated feeling very small in the face of such immense countryside. We couldn't help but put our feet in, and yes it was freezing!
By the time we arrived in Galway it was dark, and very busy. Galway is a university town, so the friday night crowds were flooding the sidewalks and finding a hotel proved challenging. Eventually we managed a nice place without too much compromise, and at a great price, which was great because we had no energy to match the party people outside. You could hear them through the windows but nothing could keep us from a good night's sleep.
